Festivals Bring Uber & Lyft to Fence Lake, New Mexico
Mujeres Valley Campground's Grand Opening in April 2022 with the Inaugural Freedom Festival opened up the first event venue on the border of Cibola and Catron County!
In 2018 Mujeres Valley Campground softly and quietly opened 13 acres of the 60+ acres purchased by California-natives, IxChel and Asad. Over the last six years they've been building their first home while figuring out how to revive a struggling local community. Finally, in April 2022 they hosted their grand opening the Inaugural Freedom Festival on 20 acres of reclaimed Zuni (Shiwinna) Territory. Their occupancy is a act of resistance after some locals were not welcoming to this family of color setting up in Cibola County.
Regardless of the discrimination the family pushed through and turned that into fuel for the mission!
In August 2022 they hosted the Inaugural Forest Fiesta and welcomed performers from across the country to perform for the 2nd time that year! In the midst of finalizing setup on Friday, August 12th an Uber/Lyft car pulled up to check-in bringing Steve Damar from Lynwood, California! We were absolutely blown away! We'd convinced ourselves that Uber and Lyft wouldn't service or drive anyone to this area and we were happily proven wrong!
So we're here to happily announce that Uber/Lyft will bring you to Mujeres Valley Campground from Gallup or Albuquerque which is around 2 hours from Fence Lake. When we talked to the super helpful driver that seemed to have developed a beautiful relationship with Steve on the journey from Gallup to Fence Lake he let us know that they will also drive out from Albuquerque!!
So if you want to get out here and experience a festival or a secluded weekend getaway you can always call on Uber or Lyft to get you out here and back!
